The Daughter's Walk by Jane Kirkpatrick

I requested to read The Daughter's Walk because I enjoy reading historical novels. The fact that this is a true story added to my interest. The author tells the story of a mother and daughter (Helga and Clara Estby) who journey across the United States by foot in order to receive enough money to save their family farm. After returning home to find things not as they left them, the daughter chooses to walk away from the family which leads to a 20 year separation from the people who she thought knew her best.

Jane Kirkpatrick weaves women, their fight for independence, and a story about a woman who is searching to find out for herself what her purpose in life really is throughout the book. This is a great book--one that includes fact and fiction and leaves the reader wanting to know more about the Estby family.

A special surprise

With the arrival of Molly, we wanted to make the event special for Anna Claire too--something that would be more along the lines of what a 2 year old thinks is fun. She got to go on a Daddy date to pick it out--what could be better than your first bike?

She hasn't gotten the hang of how your feet push the pedals, but she is a fast learner so I know it won't be too long before I see her doing donuts in the driveway.




Anna Claire's newest saying is..."Molly is my best, best friend." I can't get enough of it!

This Little Prayer of Mine by Anthony DeStefano

It is never to early to teach your child about the importance of prayer so I was excited when I received this book. A brother and sister share their emotions, fears, joys and sorrows throughout this book as they learn how to pray and what to pray for. In addition to prayer the story teaches how to be grateful for the things that we receive every day and reiterates the message that the most important thing is to trust in the Lord and his plan for our lives.

This is one of the sweetest books on prayer for children that I have come across. The beautiful illustrations only add to the story and beauty of the book.

Thank you God for Mommy by Amy Parker

In Thank you God for Mommy by Amy Parker, the reader sees the sweet relationship between a mother and baby panda bear. The rhyming story follows the pair as the baby plays, learns to share, gets in trouble and follows the example that the mother bear has set.

This would be a great Mother's Day present for the first (or second, or third...) mother as a special way to show how thankful you are for her and the role she plays in your life. It is a tender book that is easy to read for all ages with wonderful and colorful illustrations.
