The Picture of a Man
As I was straightening up the bedroom this morning after Mike left for work, I was struck by what was on his nightstand. This is where he begins and ends his day and these books represent who he is as a man.
The Bible, his source of strength and truth.
Babywise, We are both reading several books on parenting and he is working through this one.
The Reason for God, this is written by the pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC. Mike really enjoys apologetics and this book was recommended by a pastor he listens to from TX (Matt Chandler at the Village Church) for Christians to read to be able to stand on firm ground when talking to skeptics of the faith.
Halley's Bible Handbook, I bought this for him for our anniversary this year. He has really enjoyed it as a resource, especially since we just started studying Revelation at church.
Handyman and Backpacker magazines, these are his two favorite hobbies. He is either building something or planning a camping trip.
Aesop's Fables, I bought this book for Mike when I found out I was pregnant with the twins in '07. It is one of his favorite books from growing up and he is planning on reading it to the sweet little girl who will be here soon!
Not only do these books represent who he is as a man, but who he is as a follower of Christ, the spiritual leader in our family and the father he is and the father he is going to become again. He is also a hard worker and a hard player.
Off to the side there you will see his headlamp that he uses when we go backpacking. Being the sweet man that he is, when he gets up in the morning and I'm still sleepy, he puts the lamp on so that he doesn't have to turn the bright light on and wake me up.
I am so thankful for Mike and that just by looking at his nightstand, you can catch a glimpse of his priorities, his love and his character.

What a sweet man! How awesome that he loves the Lord and chooses to spend each and every day in His word.
I did babywise with all three of my kids...it made mothering easier....more sleep..better mom!

That's awesome!
I have to give you a "mommy" recommendation...
The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems - this book ROCKS! Everything you ever want to know on taking care of your babe, every question you could have, all through two years old. HIGHLY recommend!!!
How sweet! The books we read do say a lot about us. I love the headlamp! I'm not sure you could get any sweeter than that! :)
What a wonderful photo to capture. I never really thought about it in the same way but my husband who is a youth pastor has his reading material by our bed and then by his chair in the livingroom. It's great being married to a wonderful Godly man.

Hubby is facilitating a Sunday School class right now, based on Keller's book. It's made for some very interesting conversations!
I've just got to add in. . . We used Babywise and regret it. There are much better books available, less stressful ways of parenting, better ideas actually based on research and what is known about infant sleep, growth and development. So, be cautious.
That was really neat. What a window into who your hubby is. I am so happy you get to share your life with such a godly man.
What a great collection to read from. I read your previous post & am so glad that the baby's doing well - not much longer.
I love this. It is so telling. My husband has Backpacker and the Bible...not sure what else is on there. Now I am curious! :)
Definitely check out the sleep book I mentioned on my blog today. I will swear by it for Nina's sleeping through the night!

I think Mike is just the greatest, and props to him for letting you sleep in the dark!
So neat! Fun idea to look on someone's nightstand to get a "picture" of them... I wonder what people would gather about me if they looked on mine...
There are so many reasons to love our hubbys!
I love that your hubby keeps his headlamp on his nightstand. ;) Mine LOVES his headlamp and looks for every possible opportunity to break it out. We actually got stopped for an inspection at airport security on our way to our honeymoon because he had it in his carry-on and they couldn't identify what it was. Ha! He hasn't thought of this use for it though. I'll have to file that one away for future reference. ;)
This is a neat post! ~ My husband is reading 'The Reason for God' also. Tim Keller is great!
Blessings~

What a great husband, leader, friend, and lover the Lord has given you! I know you know how blessed you are.
I'm praying for you two and your precious daughter on the way! :-)
PS: I've seen both views on your comments and must add mine - for what it's worth: Babywise saved my sanity with two babies 20 months apart! LOVED it - and am still parrenting the Ezzo way - except we've now been through Toddler Wise, Child Wise, PreTeen Wise and now it's time for TeenWise. The trick to making the Babywise method work is to not be so rigid (they even say this in their books!). Make it work with your life and your schedule, and you'll have a well adjusted and happy baby - and mommy!
