Follow the Yellow Brick Road or hardwood floors...

This weekend's focus was on getting the floors done in the kitchen. I have one question, well, I actually have more than that, but for this particular situation...why is it that the one item you need to finish a project is NEVER in stock when you need it? As you know we are installing hardwood floors throughout the house. We needed a "transition" piece in order to finish off the kitchen. When I went to Home Depot and to Lowe's to get the piece, they didn't have it. You would think that stores that sell hardwood floors would also sell the items that help you install and finish the hardwood floors. I guess I was wrong. So, after receiving a special order from Lumber Liquidators this week, hopefully I will have another before and after shot for you. Mike worked hard on the floors this weekend.

So did Charlie. He doesn't like the sound of the nail gun and compressor so he retreated to his kennel in the bedroom. Bless his heart. He's very sensitive.

While Mike was working on the floors, I did this.

I wanted to add a little color to the tops of my cabinets so I found the paper at a scrapbooking store, the green paper has little roosters on it, and the frames at Olde Time Pottery (one of my new favorite places). It's along the lines of thrifting and TJ Maxx, you never know what you might find, but when you do, it's always a steal. I already had the rooster. Disclaimer--Please ignore the popcorn ceiling. It was there when we moved in and it's on the "to do" list to one day scrape the ceiling.

And I gave this
A little makeover...

Last night we turned on the TV to relax and were so excited to see that this was on!

Mike and I had so much fun reminiscing about this movie...the first time we saw it, how the flying monkeys scare me (please tell me they scare you too!), the music and our favorite parts. Growing up, it would come on TV every year and to this day, my sister, Christy is scared to death of tornadoes. It's still her favorite movie of all time though. Evidently the movie isn't as captivating to me as it was when I was 6. I fell asleep just as the Tin Man, The Lion and the Scarecrow disguised themselves as the Wicked Witch's castle guards in an attempt to go in and rescue Dorothy. But, I woke up just in time to see the Wizard and Dorothy being launched off in the hot air balloon. Toto had different plans, he jumped out to chase a cat. What a great movie! What movie holds memories for you? What movie takes you back to your childhood?

Have a great afternoon!

Sarah, I accidentally came upon your sister Christy's blog through a comment section. Her blog very much impressed me. I noticed your link on her blog list so decided to check yours out. I could tell immediately that you and your sister would be similar writers. I love the simplicity and the meaningfulness of your blog and something about it draws me to it. I most definitely added you both to my blog roll.

Hi Sarah...the floors are looking great! I love your pop of color you did as well. It would look cool to put your families initial (scrapbooking rub-ons) of your last name or whatever in the one that looks like checks. If you like monograms. The bench looks adorable! Thanks for coming and saying hi! cherry

Hi Sarah. The floors are looking mahvolous! We had our floors redone on the main level. Tossed around having wood put in the kitchen and the foyer (high, high kid/dog/dirt/cleats traffic areas) and decided against that and went with a nice laminate that looks like tile but is holding up nicely.

I love your little stool. I have one that desperately needs a makeover. I'll be looking around for some fabric for it soon!

I love the Wizard of Oz and it definitely reminds me of my childhood. Our daughter (Sarah!) WILL NOT WATCH IT PERIOD because of the monkeys. She's now 17...so I'm thinking it is a total lost cause for her! I always looked (okay still LOOK) forward to Frosty the Snowman and Rudolf Christmas.

Loving getting to know you, Sarah and your sister!

The floors are looking beautiful! I can't wait to see them when I visit.

Well, along with The Wizard of Oz (it is the best movie EVER!) another one would be "Jungle Book" and "Black Beauty". I also LOVED the T.V. show "Born Free", you know with the lion cub named Elsa. Does anyone else remember this?

Oh I love your hardwood floors. The same thing happned to us when we bought some Pergo from Home Depot. We didn't buy enough and when we went to buy more it took 2 weeks to get in special ordered. Yea, the flying monkeys always scared me too. I still love the movie though, I was so excited to show it to my kids for the first time, they just loved it.

Oh, your floors are coming along so nicely! I can't wait to see them finished. Love the paper in frames idea! I bet it brings so much color to that area. I LOVE Old Time Pottery but only get to go once a year when we go to Destin. :)

Hey! I was watching the Wizard of Oz too! It's been forever since I've seen it.
Can I just say that I'm very envious of those beautiful hardwood floors!
And your newest decorating projects look great too.

Oh, hands down it is the Wizard of Oz. It was such a big deal because we didn't have VCRs and it was the 1 night a year we got to stay up late to watch a movie and fall asleep in the living room. My kids don't get that at all!

I'm so excited for you that you are getting hard wood flooring. I just love mine. And I just love getting new flooring!

Cool idea putting scrap paper in frames. I think I'm going to have to copy you on that one.

Love the furniture makover too.

You all are doing an amazing job with your floors. Now once you have them installed, we can share 'cleaning' secrets. I find they are a bear to keep really clean. ;) My mother used to buff them herself. I haven't tried that yet. ;)

Those floors are going to be gorgeous! I can't wait to see the finished product!
Oooh, Old Time Pottery! I love that store! The closest one to us is in Pigeon Forge,TN, though. And we haven't been over there since last year (I'm seriously having withdrawls-we're usually there a few times a year).
By the way, The Wizard of Oz is one of my all time favorites!
